Videonale on Tour Katowitz, Polen 2011

Re:view Festival bei Ars Cameralis

From 18 May - 26 June 2011, Katowice hosted the Video Re:view festival, the first event of this scale in the region presenting the most important phenomena in video art. The main event of the festival is an exhibition of works from the 13th Bonn Videonale, one of the oldest video art biennials in Europe, well known for its talent-spotting capability and original ways of presenting videos.

A notable highlight of the festival will be a project bearing reference to the history of cinema titled "Video Art Enters the Katowice Railway Station. Cinema (Re)visited by Video Art". The show has been developed in collaboration with Les Instants Vidéo of Marseille.

The festival programme also includes a screening of Santiago Sierra's latest film "No, Global Tour", which is an account of the "global" tour of his "NO" installation which visited last year's edition of the Ars Cameralis Festival. The festival will also provide an opportunity to launch "Memory Labyrinth. Faces of Evil 1939–2009", a book summing up an exhibition by the same title held in Katowice two years ago.

The workshop programme of the festival is equally interesting. The artistic collective Mühlenkampf of Cologne has prepared an international exchange programme known as Wel(t)räumen, which is intended as an opportunity for young people from Poland and Germany to explore the impact of media and technology on art and social reality. The festival will also host workshops, led by Georg Elben, Director of Videonale, who will share his knowledge of video art presentation with young art curators.

We are also in for a feast of video screenings in cinemas and public spaces as well as meetings with the artists and discussions on audiovisual culture.

Organised by: Katowice European Capital of Culture 2016 Office, Cultural Institution Ars Cameralis Silesiae Superioris.

Co-organised by: BWA Contemporary Art Gallery, Katowice, Rondo Sztuki Gallery, Katowice.
