The idea behind the art appreciation project DIE AUSERWÄHLTEN (THE CHOSEN ONES), first held in 2008, is to help young people, mostly in their teens and with varying social backgrounds, to find their way to video art by letting them take part in workshops held over a period of several months. In these, together with representatives of different artistic disciplines such as dance/theatre and radio plays, they examine video works presented at VIDEONALE and approach this art form from various perspectives.

The object of the project is; 1) to put the schoolgirls in positive contact with an art form almost unknown to them, 2) to help them find an emancipated, creative, intellectual and formative  approach to works of art, 3) to see works of art as the starting point for an artistic expedition, 4) to acquaint them with an artistic institution, 5) to let them experience the way in which works of art take effect in an exhibition, 6) to let them experience how they and their fellow pupils can discover new, previously unknown personality traits, abilities and talents.
